For my analysis paper I chose one of my favorite TV host andinspirational leader, Oprah Winfrey. Overcoming abuse in herchildhood, Oprah has taken life like a bull by the horns and hasdefinitely carved out a place for herself in history. Beginning her career as a television reporter and anchor, Oprah went on to find success as the first black woman to host a nationally syndicated television show and the first black woman to own a production company. In 2003, Winfrey was named the first black woman billionaire and she has been named the world's most recognized person.
Despite such wealth and popularity, much of her professional, voluntary and monetary efforts have gone to support the underprivileged. Through her personal giving and support and her work through both Oprah's Angel Network and the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, Winfrey has been perhaps the most significant female African-American philanthropist in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. In the list of the world's ranking mega-leaders, there are few women. This is undoubtedly not for any lack of talent or leadership ability among women, but more likely because the step between being a good leader and being a world-renowned mega-leader is quite large, and few women or men, for that matter have been able to pull together all of the abilities and resources necessary to make it happen. In Oprah Winfrey's case, however, mega-leadership was achievable, and she has not only achieved it but keeps increasing her leadership base.
